NFO Files
What an NFO file is, which ones TinePlayer looks for, and exactly which details it reads out of them.
An NFO file is a small plain text XML file that sits next to a video and contains metadata about that video: its title, the year, a summary, how it was rated, etc. TinePlayer will optionally read these files to display information on the media page.
Sources
NFO file are written by popular media managers like Kodi, Emby, Jellyfin, and TinyMediaManager For more information on their specification, see Kodi's documentation.
Naming Convention
The following file names are considered by TinePlayer when searching for nfo files:
| Kind | File names |
|---|---|
| Movies, Episodes | <videoFileName>.nfo or movie.nfo |
| TV Shows | tvshow.nfo |
Soundtracks and Subtitles
An NFO can also describe the streams inside the video - the language of each soundtrack and subtitle, how many channels, and which are marked default or forced. TinePlayer uses this info when displaying track and subtitle selections, and when automatically selecting tracks.
